Not like the First, not like the Second

Put simply, the newest Jars of Clay album, If I Left the Zoo is best described by my friend Jason. Before I bought it, I asked him what it was like. He simply said, "It is not like the first Jars' album, and it is not like the second album." After listening to it, I think that is probably the fairest assessment of the album. After you listen to it the first time, there probably won't be any song that really grabs you. Why? It is a really mellow album. It is not upbeat like the first album and not down like the second album, which many felt was a great disappointment. However, once you listen to it time and time again and begin to analyze the symbolism found in the songs, as Brad and I did, you will thouroughly enjoy it. The more I listen to it, the more I love it. It really is starting to grab ahold of me.

Summary: I give it 3 stars out of 4.
