Conclusion – Now it’s Your Turn
I preached a sermon at chapel in October of 1998 when CFG sponsored it with the same title. Basically, I wanted to sum up some of the main points and wish you well. First, if the Al Denson concert is any indication at all, I believe that God is going to bless you all tremendously more than any of us in previous years. I think that God is starting to move on this campus more than ever. I praise Him for that! I think we are all joyful that we could just play a little role in preparing the way.
For scripture reference, consult Joshua 1, particularly verses 7 and 8. The Israelite generation were getting prepared to cross over to the promised land. Moses was getting old. The older generation were all passing away due to their sins and grumbling. The younger generation had not seen the miracles the previous generation had, such as the crossing of the Red Sea. Nonetheless, they had faith that God would provide. Remember to have the same faith. Verse 7 instructs Joshua to be Strong, Courageous, and know the Law.
Be strong in Christ. In the King James Version, Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." Always turn to Christ.
Be courageous. I Corinthians 16:13 says, "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong." To be strong requires that you stand firm in your faith. Know what you believe, and why you believe. Don’t be scared to tell people that Jesus did die for your sins and rose again. People will respect one who walks the faith. Do what you preach. Do what you believe.
Know the law. Know the Bible. Continually seek to know God’s word better, so that you can live your life in a holy, pleasing manner. Always seek to know Him better.
I just wanted to convey how awesome you all are! I am so thankful that God has put you into this group and into your respective positions. I pray that you will always desire to seek His will.
I truly pray that you will not have to have any of the problems that we have had. We have set this system up, designed with a purpose. This didn’t just come overnight. We have developed it, hoping to find the best possible way to glorify God. Please remember to be vastly humble. I truly desire to serve you all now, as a second semester senior, and as an alumn. Whatever you need, please don’t hesitate to contact me, whether advice, contributions, whatever. I desire to see God continue to work in this group. This group has meant so much to a whole lot of us, and taught us so much.
Understand this: there are different committee leaders. These people need to form a committee of people, more than likely in CFG. However, like Student Parliament, we desire to serve the whole community. Thus, if you can get more people involved, please do. A good committee will meet once a week or maybe once every other week should be fine. During the meeting, everyone will feel as an equal as the ideas or work gets done. Always try to be innovative in reaching the campus. Don’t give up after the first month.
The Monday night meetings, or planning meetings, should always be fun. Never should they not be fun. They should be a time of spiritual renewal, as you serve God. Come with a joyful, pure, humble heart. Listen to all ideas. Pray. Discern God’s will. Each committee should come with a plan. The contact person will come with whatever contacts he/she has received from the school that week. The rest should come with what their committee has done, and is planning to do. We need to make decisions as a group. Anytime I tried to make decisions by myself, they failed. We need to involve everyone as much as possible.
Thus, it is with this that we leave this in your hands. I trust you all and know that God will richly bless you as he blesses CFG.
The Promised Land is near!
Love,
Jeremy
